Japanese Inventions

Japans history is rich in innovation. The relatively small island nation of the eastern coast of the Asian continent has produced a disproportionately high amount of influential products over the past centuries. As we will see, many of these inventions have directly shaped the course of human history across the entire world.

The Good, The Bad, And The Tasty

Before we get too serious, lets check out some of the cool and interesting developments which came to us from Japan. While many Japanese inventions are recognized in the fields of technology, many pop culture fixtures also originated in the Land of the Rising Sun. The first historical novel is said to be Japans The Tale of Genji from the 11th century. Instant Noodles, a staple of college dorm rooms the world over, originated in Japan. Equally important in the modern world, who could possibly live without the entertaining innovation of karaoke?

Handheld Electronics

Japanese inventions include some of the most basic of modern electronics. Chances are that at some point in your life, youve used a handheld calculator, a CD player or walkman, or perhaps even taken footage of some important event with a camcorder. You guessed it- all of these products were first conceived and built in Japan.

Data Storage Made Small

A long time ago, data storage meant organizing a large number of books in a giant library building. Nowadays, with digital storage mediums, the amount of information that can be kept in a small place is staggering. Perhaps even more staggering is the list of Japanese inventions in this field, which includes video cassettes and video recorders, floppy disks, memory cards, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, and flash drives.

Japanese Inventions Beyond Electronics

Many other technologies in a wide variety of fields fall under the heading of Japanese inventions. The discovery of the first modern vitamin (Vitamin B) was made by a Japanese scientist. Japanese scientists also pioneered the use of cold fusion methods.

Modern Life With Japanese Inventions

Nowadays, Japanese inventions are almost synonymous with modern society. Bullet trains whisk us from place to place in record time. Many households enjoy modern TVs which utilize plasma or LCD technology, both originating from overseas. Perhaps most importantly, the first modern microprocessor was invented in Japan, ushering in the modern age of the computer and revolutionizing the way that the world works in almost every way possible.
